While the quality of the matcha powder is extremely important, it is the preparation that plays the biggest roll. From water temperature to scoop size, down to tool quality- there are many variables apart of the equation. However, matcha’s golden rule remains, a high-quality drink takes high quality tools. So, why bamboo? Simple. Durability. Bamboo’s flexibility increases when wet which allows greater whisking ability to bust up those pesky powder lumps without breakage. Why whisk? Bamboo whisks, traditionally known as, chasen, intertwine the matcha with oxygen enhancing the flavor leaving your matcha frothy and effervescent.

It is important not to whisk too viciously. The ideal method is to first wet your chasen to give it the flexibility it will need. Begin whisking in a W-pattern or back and forth to aerate. Avoid whisking in circles, as this will not incorporate enough air. Whisk for about a minute or until a nice layer of froth forms at the surface. The tines of your chasen should lightly scrap the bottom of your matcha bowl, chawan, to prevent avoidable damage.

Crucial Craftmanship

Not all matcha whisks are crafted equally, some sacrifice handmade quality for factory-produced quantity. Here at BambooMN, we understand the importance of traditional technique and its impact. We start by selecting the finest bamboo rods, tailoring to the perfect size and hollowing out the center. Then, our specialists begin to hand-curl each tine; the higher string count, the smoother the matcha. Our 100-tate Matcha Whisks are built for thinner matcha powders, referred to as usucha. Chasens will need replacing every so often, depending on the upkeep. An unclean, improperly stored whisk will maybe last about 3 months or less, but a properly looked after whisk can last up to a year!

Enhance your matcha experience with our BambooMN Brand Matcha Tea Whisk Holder!

Without fail, a whisk holder, kuse naoshi, will keep your whisk in tip-top shape. Smartly designed to extend the life of your matcha whisk by allowing it air dry while simultaneously aligning and reinforcing the tines. After cleaning, place your damp whisk on the holder to keep it stationary. The hallowed-out center will allow the chasen core to drip dry while keeping the delicate structure intact.
